Is there a way to port the old non-material design to newer versions of Chrome?
Is there a way to port the old non-material design to newer versions of Chrome?
There are Chromium based browsers such as Vivaldi, and old old versions of Brave that changed the appearence of the browser settings page, and tabs, and a bunch of other things, would it be possible to get back the short tabs, and non-material design of v48?
(I've switched to Firefox and used a custom theme to make it have the shorter tabs, and make it look like a dark version of Chrome 48, I really hate the massive tabs of Chrome 69+)
(Also, Chrome has massive bookmark spacing, like look at the difference between Advanced Chrome 54 and Firefox)

My custom build has shorter, trapezoid-shaped tabs. I also increased the contrast between active and inactive tabs. I did this with Chromium 76.0.3771.0.

I'd like it more if the tabs were the size of Advanced Chrome 54, and it were dark themed

I quite like the somewhat rounded trapezoidal tabs used by Advanced Chrome, but I'd love to see the height reduced similar to Chromium 54/68.x. Bookmarks bar padding is reeeally in need of a tune up imo. The gap between items is just too much, especially on a small laptop screen.
Would be cool to see your tabs bar patches in Advanced Chrome. I'd really be curious to test one of your builds, if that's not a prob?

asdf2345: Perhaps I could add an option for extra-narrow tabs.
docR: Here is a link to my custom build.

(chromiumxp_release0.7z.sig) https://drive.google.com/uc?export=down ... l_NEekpam9

Changelog:
-Reduce tab height to fix YouTube's classic (non-polymer) layout
-Change tabs from Material design (rounded rectangles) back to trapezoids
-Change tab and toolbar colors from white to light gray, and darken inactive tabs
-Change HTML5 audio player to something resembling the old design rather than the large white Material design
-Changed "Duplicate" to "Clone tab"
-On the main menu, the History sub-menu was restored to a menu option and the sub-menu is now a separate entry called "Recent tabs"
-Change branding
-Change Windows subsystem version to 5.01 to fix "not a valid Win32 application" error on Windows XP

@DoaJC_Blogger
Very nice. Have you considered setting up a weblog or git to document releases/changes? I'm sure others would appreciate your fork. Maybe some of these revisions could even land in Advanced Chrome?
Since you built off Chromium 76, I do have one suggestion: Enable #extensions-toolbar-menu by default. Much tidier than seeing all extensions crammed into the main menu. I'm disappointed that feature didn't land in 74 stable.

I'm going to write about this on my blog when I make some more progress. The end goal is to make it run on Windows XP.

Best of luck with the project. Will it include Google sync keys also?

I don't know. If enough people are interested, then maybe. I hadn't really considered that.

Very nice job! Hope one day it will really work on XP. Did you already cooperate with Advanced Chrome author about compatibility fixes that he made in order to restore NT 5.1 kernel support in Custom build? Maybe I can also provide some help?

Alex654: I have a Discord group about Chromium development if you'd like to join. I didn't cooperate with the Advanced Chrome author. Instead, I'm working with Tarnyko from the #chromium IRC. I've already replaced several function calls that don't work on XP and I'm stuck at an issue caused when PSAPI_VERSION=1. It's normally set to 2 which causes an error on XP. For some reason Chromium refuses to open now that it's set to 1.

Do you have to be a developer to join, or could anyone join for news about the development of the browser?
